5 Minutes with...Musician Jefferson Denim

How would you classify your spirituality?
Attempting to follow the historical Jesus.

What is most important to you in your spiritual journey?
Authenticity.

Give us a short description of your prayer life.
My prayer life is constant, meaning I'm always thinking of people and things to pray about whether I'm in the car, taking a walk, etc. Someone once said that prayer doesn't change God but prayer changes us. I tend to think that way.

Do you feel art is an important aspect of being a human being and why?
Being human means having an inborn craving for the arts whether we’re cognizant of it or not. The outward expression of what’s inside of us, interpreting our surroundings through the lens of emotions is not only important, it is essential to being human. This is because we naturally take in the world around us as surely as we breathe oxygen, and it does not pass through us without making an impact. The arts can penetrate all our defenses and reach inside to the core of who we are, touching our common humanity. It is experiencing that connection through the arts that reminds us that we are not vacant robots but flesh and blood human beings endowed with a soul.

Blue, cuz I’m a moody person. Actually more than that…I love when the ocean is described as “the deep”, since you see many amazing shades of blue (green as well) and it represents to me that there’s a lot that goes on beneath the surface.

He also has an intense passion for connecting people and seeing others succeed. The arts are the breath of life and he seeks to encourage artistic expression in himself and others.
